
Professor Dr. Hanns Moehler held a professorship in the Department of Applied Biosciences, ETH Zurich, as well as in the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich, where he was director of the Institute of Pharmacology, up to 2005. He was the first director of the Swiss National Center of Neuroscience Research (2000-2004), of which he is presently vice-director. Prior to his academic positions, Hanns Moehler gained extensive experience in industry as vice-director in the Research Department of Hoffmann-La Roche, Basle Switzerland. Prof. Möhler`s research was devoted to the neurobiology of brain disorders and their therapies. The research, which included the discovery of the benzodiazepine receptor and the drug Flumazenil, also encompassed the gene therapy of epilepsy, the neurobiology of emotions and the self-organisation of the brain. He is a member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences and the European Academy of Sciences.
